Tally · Client Books Report

How much of “done” is only marked done?

Connect a client's QuickBooks (read-only) and drop their bank statement. Tally independently checks books against bank — the reconciliation fact, computed from outside — and flags the classic mess-tells. Then hand the client a sealed report where every finding carries its evidence. A system's own audit trail can only prove it followed its own rules — the reconciliation fact has to come from outside, and that's what this report computes.

Step 1Connect the client's QuickBooks
Not connected.
Connecting a client's books from an accountant (QBOA) login? Read this first.
Intuit only lets an app connect to a company where your signed-in user is a company admin — firm-level accountant access isn't enough, and the failure modes are silent:
  • Pick the client directly in the "company or firm" field. Don't use the "Install for your firm" + client flow — Intuit will connect your firm's own books, not the client's.
  • If clicking Next just loops back to the picker (no error shown), your login lacks admin on that client. Fix: the client's admin either adds you as Company admin (client's QuickBooks → Gear → Manage users), or opens this page and connects once themselves.
  • After connecting, check the company name shown above. If it's your firm's books (often "<name>'s Company" with a stock chart of accounts), disconnect and retry with the client selected directly — a retry after a failed attempt often succeeds.
Step 2Drop the bank statement (CSV)

It's parsed on this device — the file is never uploaded. Optional: skip this step to run the mess-tells alone.
Step 3Run the report
Connect QuickBooks first. The statement is optional but it's the headline check.
